March 2024 Income Report

Hello Members!

Well here it is, the final third of my Quarter One income. I can’t tell you how worthwhile I’ve found going through my income on a monthly basis and actually paying attention to it properly, rather than just going on how “tight” my finances feel that month.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m in my business account daily, sometimes more than once a day, so I do know to a certain extent. However, seeing a breakdown of how much is coming in for each different income stream and then (here’s the thing) using that information to INFORM my plans for my businesses has been a revelation. It shouldn’t have been. I should have been doing this all along, but, well, some things come easily to me, others, such as this, clearly do not.

A huge welcome to the new members who have signed up recently

This is your first income report, it’s very open and VERY detailed so I hope you get something out of it. You can also catch up on the January and February income reports too.

Another treat in store for members is a Quarter One Financial Evaluation where I look at my income for the whole of the quarter and thrust some graphs and charts in front of you, so we can see (and discuss if you like!) which elements of my business are working moneywise and which, perhaps, are not.

Let’s get on with the numbers, shall we?

March Income Streams

  1. Vintage Shop (reselling)

  2. Youtube

    1. Adsense

    2. Affiliates

  3. Amazon KDP

  4. Redbubble and Society 6 (Print on Demand)

  5. Substack

I will be sharing the amounts that were paid into my business account during the calendar month, rather than what was earned. I often earn money in a month that doesn’t pay out for a further month or two. Mixing the two together could get confusing so I will stick to the above for consistency and because it’s pretty much how my bookkeeping is done.

I’ll add some explanatory notes for each income stream as we get to it and tell you whether the amount was average, below or above what I would usually expect. I’ll also show you my business expenses so you can get a sense of how lean (or not) my businesses are and how much profit I made overall.

Amounts will be given in GBP and USD

To unlock all my future income reports consider upgrading to a full paid membership. It’s currently half price for the year at £30 which works out at 58p a week!

MARCH 2024 CREATIVE INCOME REPORT

The Vintage Shop

I sell second hand jewellery and vintage items on two platforms - Etsy and Ebay.

For most of March the number of listings continued to shift towards more on Etsy and fewer on Ebay (405 to 170 respectively)

I think for the foreseeable future I will just use Ebay to clear sticky stock and to sell modern jewellery that isn’t allowed on Etsy because it’s not old enough.

In March I adjusted my postage charges on both platforms to mirror the increases in Royal Mail charges in April

I also cancelled my shop subscription on eBay which will save me about £30 a month.

Plus, I finally got round to tidying, organising and LABELLING (get me!) a set of Ikea drawers beside my desk in order to improve my dispatch workflow. It’s not perfect yet, but is so much better than before. I’m chalking this up as a win because I am such a messy madam!

Here is a simple breakdown of my net profit (after fees and postage but before stock spend - see expenses) from each platform:
